HOMECOMING!! TBirds Triumph Over Clemens

Jazmyn Smith, Junior, Staff Writer

On October 21, the Wagner Thunderbirds faced the Samuel Clemens Buffaloes for our Homecoming game at D.W Rutledge Stadium.

To kick off the start of a good game there was a tailgate party for our students, parents, and supporters put on by Mr. Hendry and the student council. We had a variety of different foods including sausage wraps, Little Caesars Pizza, hot dogs, soda, and water. Lots of students came to support by wearing their homemade Homecoming mums and pants. Everyone was having a good time dancing to the music played by Mr. Hendry’s Top Shelf band. Towards the end of the tailgate party, we then had a dance contest with teachers vs. students with a hundred dollars on the table for the winner. We had multiple great participants but our winner of the dance contest was Ms. Spring.

To start the first quarter, the Buffaloes scored the first touchdown, then the T Birds came back with their first touchdown in the first quarter at 5 minutes and 46 seconds made by Junior Mar’kell Ford. Halftime began at a tied score of 7-7. During halftime, Clemens Band performed. Wagner’s Homecoming Court was then announced. This year’s Homecoming Court were freshmen Lord Emmanuel Guzman and Lady Amirah Graves, sophomore Duke Greg Williams and Duchess Faith Tabbert, Junior Prince Maximus Cardona and Princess Janelle Carreon, and our senior King Isaiah Johnson and Queen Toni Gusmas.

Our last T-Bird touchdown of the night was at four minutes and a couple of seconds on the clock when safety Brendon Martin intercepted a throw from the Buffaloes. The final score of the night was 35-7 with the T-Birds for the win! To bring this wonderful night to an end the Wagner band and color guards performed beautiful selections and routines for the crowd. This win upgrades Wagner’s record to 3-5 on the season. The next big game event will be the Hammer Bowl against the Rockets this Friday, November 5th at 7:00 pm at Rutledge Stadium. The TBirds will have the home side this year.
